Fifty-four years ago, a sponsored dinner was held at the Gen. Glover House for the $400,000 Think Rink Building Fund campaign, which aimed to build an artificial ice skating rink for Marblehead, Swampscott, and Salem.
According to a Monday, April 6, 1970 edition of The Daily Evening Item, the event was attended by “several hundred” sponsors, as well as members of the Think Rink Board of Trustees, including President Dr. Willard Perry Jr.
The article also displayed a sketch of the proposed rink in Marblehead. Though there is no ice skating rink in town today, a Marblehead Ice Rink feasibility study was conducted in 2021 by MacLaughlin Management and Design, according to the town’s website.
