Doug Grad

Abbot Public Library event will offer publishing advice

July 21, 2023 by For The Weekly News

Abbot Public Library is partnering with Tewksbury Public Library for an online Zoom presentation facilitated by author Dale T. Phillips, featuring literary agent Doug Grad on Monday, July 31, at 7 p.m.

Grad promises to give aspiring and new authors the cold, hard reality of the business of publishing — from landing a deal with a major publisher to self-publishing your manuscript. He’ll give you a general overview of publishing; how the publishing industry has changed in recent years; and the various steps to getting a book published, from the writer’s ideas to the bookstore (or library) shelves.

Grad, a 37-year veteran of the publishing industry, is the president of Doug Grad Literary Agency. Prior to starting his own agency in 2008, Grad spent 22 years as a senior editor at four major New York publishing houses, including Simon & Schuster (1987-1995), Random House (1995-1998), Penguin (1998-2004) and Harper Collins (2005-2008).

Phillips has published novels, over 80 short stories, collections, poetry, and nonfiction. Stephen King was his college writing teacher. Phillips has found time to appear on stage, television, radio, in an independent feature film, and to compete on Jeopardy (losing in a spectacular fashion). He is a member of the Mystery Writers of America and the Sisters in Crime. Phillips has traveled to all 50 states, Mexico, Canada, and throughout Europe.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of Tewksbury Public Library in partnership with Tewksbury Public Library. For additional information, please visit www.abbotlibrary.org, email mar@noblenet.org, or call 781-631-1481.
