You know what I’ve been thinking? The Marblehead/Swampscott wrestling team had itself a solid Saturday with a ninth-place finish out of 15 teams, but the story belonged to senior Mason Hinshaw of Swampscott.
The gritty, experienced grappler went home with varsity win No. 100 of his career. As for Saturday’s Anthony Lisitano Memorial Tournament at Wakefield High, the captain placed second in the 157-pound weight division.
“Since moving here from Texas prior to his sophomore season, Mason has been a great leader and a stabilizing force in the middle of our lineup,” said coach Michael Stamison. “He wrestles hurt, wrestles up weight classes when needed, and is a good soldier for us. I’m very excited to see what he does this year for us, and next year, as he continues his academic and wrestling career at the University of Southern Maine.”
Truth be told, it’s been quite the career for the Black and Blue star. He went 32-12 during his sophomore season, then improved upon that with a 41-9 record last winter. Speaking of his junior season, he won the Gionet Memorial, finished second at the Pentucket Holiday Tournament, and placed third in Division 2 states.
There’s room for Hinshaw to make a bigger splash in a busy week coming up for Marblehead/Swampscott. The Black and Blue hit the road to Bristol, Rhode Island to take part in the annual Sharon Lombardo Memorial Tournament at Mt. Hope High School.
