Brian Ota stepped down from his role as School Committee member during the latest Committee meeting on July 31. He is leaving town after two years in that position, and several more in Marblehead Public Schools. Ota emphasized that he is merely vacating his position, not resigning, as he is leaving town.
A Clark University graduate and former Principal of Grover Elementary, Ota was elected to the School Committee in 2023.
“It has been a pleasure working with the School Committee,” Ota said during the meeting last Thursday. “It’s been great and I will sorely miss this.”
Committee member Jennifer Schaeffner has worked alongside Ota during his time successively as Assistant Principal at the Village School and Principal at Grover–a “true privilege.”
“Brian embodies the spirit of dedication, bringing invaluable experience as both an educator and administrator. His insights have illuminated our path in making crucial decisions for the school district,” Schaeffner said.
“With a focus solely on what benefits our students, staff, and community, Brian demonstrated that leadership is about serving others. He skillfully balanced fiscal responsibility with a commitment to maximizing resources, showing us all the importance of good governance,” she added.
Henry Gwazda, also a member of the Committee, commented: “I want to thank him for his years of dedication to Marblehead schools and I wish him best of luck in whatever comes next for him.”
