With the 86th Bob Green Invitational Four Ball Championship in the books at Tedesco Country Club in Marblehead, Tom Burke and Rom Emmons have been crowned champions. They’ve now etched their names into the Four Ball board for the third time.
All that said, it almost wasn’t . . .
Burke and Emmons began Thursday with a tough match against Dom Iacovo and JP Morgan. Two down on 16, the champs went on to win 17 and 18 before heading to the first tee for a playoff down the first. A stellar finish from Emmons led to victory in 19 holes.
From there, all Burke and Emmons did was defeat a previous champion in TJ Whelan and his partner Kirk Steen. The duo then took down another former champion, Elias Demakes, and Joe Mahoney.
Another tough opponent was waiting on the tee Sunday as Kevin Maguire and Tom Finocchio were ready to go, but Burke and Emmons pulled ahead.
Next up were former Golf Chairman John Tyrrell and Bennett Blau. The final match was one for the ages, as said by Golf Professional Ryan Train, as Tyrrell and Blau left the 10th green three up.
A brilliant birdie on 11 by Emmons, followed by a fantastic shot by Burke on 12 got them back in striking distance. The champs won the 14th, and a magnificent bunker shot from Burke on 15 moved them to one up before dropping the 16th. Emmons proceeded to get up and down on 17 for the win, and sealed the deal on the 18th with another excellent par.
Blue Flight champions were TJ Rogers and Dave McKenna.
