Business of the Week: Elia Taverna

November 26, 2024 by Grace Calandrella

Marblehead’s home to Greek cuisine comes out of a cozy restaurant on Washington Street called Elia Taverna.

Two and a half years ago, Athas and Angelo Bido, a father-son duo, opened their doors to the Marblehead community to share their love for Greek food and culture.

The restaurant serves traditional-style Greek food with home ingredients that the owners grew up eating. Son Angelo Bido shared that the food has run in the family forever. “Everything we make here we’ve had for pretty much our whole lives,” he said.

Going hand in hand with the food being served, Elia Taverna offers multiple specials throughout the week.

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the restaurant offers $2 oysters during dine-in, lunch hours are offered Wednesday through Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on Wednesdays, there are half-off appetizers between the hours of 4 and 6 p.m. The appetizers have been among their most popular specials with a wide range of fifteen different options.

On everybody’s favorite day of the week, Sunday, Elia Taverna has a “Football Sunday” menu serving typical bar food. The menu consists of chicken wings and tenders, greek nachos, mozzarella sticks, and more. Football fans can find a seat at the bar, and enjoy good food, football, and a draft beer before heading back to work on Monday.

Paired well with good food is good music, and Athas and Angelo Bido certainly understand that. On Thursdays, the restaurant hosts live music, typically jazz music and some Greek, but always acoustic.

Catering and private events are two additional services offered through Elia Taverna. Angelo Bido explained the restaurant does numerous birthdays and anniversaries, with a wedding rehearsal coming up as well.

After two and a half years in business, Angelo Bido thanks the amazing community that has supported them. Bido added, “There’s so many great people that we’ve met here that I’ve become friends with.”

Between the regulars that come through the door and new faces ready to delve into Greek dishes, Athas and Angelo Bido open their arms to all hoping they’ll find a home at Elia Taverna.
