No. 8 Marblehead, the defending Division 3 state champion in boys hockey, fell to top-ranked Nauset in a 5-1 final at Gallo Rink in Bourne.
The Headers struck first when Crew Monaco found Kyle Hart two minutes in, but that’s as good as it got as Nauset netted five unanswered goals. The Magicians bowed out with a final record of 17-6-1 behind Coach Mark Marfione.
One day earlier, it may have taken two overtimes – the second being a 3-on-3 period – but No. 7 Arlington completed a 2-1 upset against No. 2 St. John’s Prep in Division 1 action at the Chelmsford Forum. JP Messuri netted the game-winning goal in sudden death.
The Prep had its moments – none bigger than with 17 seconds remaining in the third period. Brandon Ward scored a one-time goal from Greg Benedetto to tie the game, 1-1.
