There will be a Juneteenth Ceremony June 13 at 5 p.m. at Abbot Hall, 188 Washington St., sponsored by the Marblehead Task Force Against Discrimination and Marblehead Museum in conjunction with the North Shore Juneteenth Association (NSJA).
NSJA is a group of community leaders seeking to create awareness about the Juneteenth holiday, educate the broader community about positive aspects of African American culture and dismantle racism by using events and programming as a tool for change.
There will be a flag raising at this ceremony, and Marblehead High School students will speak. The event will also include a performance of the Black American National Anthem, poetry and a speaker from the NSJA.
The NSJA has organized Juneteenth flag raising events in Lynn since 2017. Salem held its first flag raising with NSJA in 2020. In 2023 and 2024, NSJA raised the flag in 13 cities and towns. NSJA has operated in Beverly, Danvers, Everett, Gloucester, Lynn, Marblehead, Melrose, Newburyport, Peabody, Salem, Somerville, Swampscott, Wakefield and Wenham.
