You know what I’ve been thinking? Age is just a number. Marblehead’s eighth-grade goalie (yes, you read that right) Liv Doucette recorded 34 saves on Saturday against a 6-2 Peabody-Lynnfield-North Reading team. Marblehead was the underdog and playing on the road, but none of that mattered to Doucette. The majority of her saves were impressive, but a series in the second period caught the most eyes. On three consecutive PLNR shots, Doucette slid to protect the left post, made a smooth glove save a minute later, and dove right-to-left to stop a rebound chance after that. PLNR, which dominated time of possession, scored three goals, but Doucette made sure that was it. After her last save of the game, fans stood up to give Doucette a round of applause. Despite the individual performance, the ever-so-humble goalie said “my defense did a good job pushing people out so I could see the puck when it was being shot.” Her coach Brittany Smith highlighted how impressive of a skater Doucette was, and even PLNR head coach Michelle Roach said she “can’t say enough good things” about her. Liv, good week, and we can’t wait to see what you do in the future.
