To the editor:
I’ve known Alex Kulevich for 52 years, since I first came to Marblehead to teach. I was lucky enough to meet him through his lovely wife Barbara, who was the school nurse at Seaside School, where I started my 35-year teaching career in Marblehead. After we met, I started coaching football in town for the next 22 years.
Alex ended up teaching, coaching, and being an administrator for the schools of Marblehead for 30 years. He is an outstanding individual and Marblehead would do a great thing for a great guy by naming the athletic complex after him. He has shown through his words, but more importantly through his actions, what a fantastic leader, teacher, coach, father and community member he is.
I have unforgettable memories of teaching and coaching with Alex. He always had the utmost respect and the best interests of the students and athletes in mind and in heart. He was always looking for ways to improve his teaching, coaching, and leadership skills throughout his tenure. He was open to new ideas. For example, when the students came to me and asked if Marblehead could have a wrestling team, all I had to do was approach Alex with the interest that the students showed and he was very supportive of getting the program off the ground.
When Alex was working for the Marblehead Schools, he wanted everyone to grow and reach their potential no matter if you were a student, athlete, coach, or an administrator. He was and still is active in the community, giving of his time and talents. However, the best part of Alex is his devotion and love for his family.
You cannot find a better person for the town of Marblehead to honor than Alex Kulevich. Over the years he has given so much to the town that I think he is the perfect individual to have this special recognition, for he is truly a very special person. I am asking the School Committee to do the right thing and name the athletic complex in his honor.
Thank you for your time and concern.
Sincerely,
Sal Pangallo
