To the editor,
As we Marbleheaders prepare to go to the polls in next month’s town election, the contest for School Committee should be of particular importance to taxpayers.
As I look at the candidates running for School Committee, re-electing the two incumbents seems a poor option. The old saying “insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results” comes to mind when considering this choice. Instead of voting for more of the same, I suggest voters reflect on the amount of our tax dollars and time the current members of the School Committee have wasted over the last several years on things having little to do with educating our children; multiple superintendent hirings, firings, buyouts, executive search fees, legal fees, consultants fees and neglectful oversight of the physical plant resulting in the absurdly inflated costs of the new roof and HVAC systems for the High School, etc. etc. Despite claims by the incumbents that things have improved you wouldn’t know it by the recent teacher’s strike and the continued exodus of teachers and administrators from the school system.
On June 10, we have an excellent opportunity to make positive changes and improvements to our schools by beginning to replace the majority of the current School Committee with new, more collegial and less arrogant citizens to oversee this valuable town resource. Turn out the incumbents and bring in some new blood!
