To the editor,
Local author and yoga teacher Sheena Nancy Sarles has released a new book, “Yoga for Living With Loss: Navigating Our Losses Without Getting Lost,” along with an accompanying video series designed to support individuals, families, and caregivers across Lynn and the greater North Shore community who are living with grief.
Drawing from nearly ten years of teaching her signature “Yoga for Living With Loss” classes, Sarles offers a gentle, accessible program that integrates restorative yoga, breathwork, meditation, chakra awareness, and journaling prompts. The 200-page guidebook provides practical, body-centered tools to help people move through grief at their own pace.
Sarles created this program after recognizing the deep and layered ways that loss affects the body and mind through illness, caregiving, aging, trauma, and the death of loved ones. Her approach emphasizes compassion, steadiness, and presence rather than any expectation to “move on” or “get over” grief.
“Grief lives in the body, not just the heart,” Sarles explains. “My hope is that these practices help people feel supported, grounded, and accompanied, especially when the world can feel overwhelming or isolating.”
The book’s companion Yoga for Living With Loss Video Series makes the practices accessible to people who may not be able to attend in-person classes, including older adults, caregivers, or anyone experiencing mobility challenges or emotional fatigue.
Sarles has taught extensively across the North Shore, and her yoga and wellness programs are known for being welcoming, trauma-informed, and adaptable for all bodies.
