Lynn resident Larry Dunn’s solo photography exhibit “The Color and Shapes of Playgrounds” opened May 4 at the Stetson Gallery at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Marblehead at 28 Mugford St. The exhibit will be open through June 8.
Dunn has been interested in photography for about 60 years now, since his dad got him involved as a young teen. He primarily started off doing black and white film photography in the dark room under the basement stairs in his childhood home.
He typically produces black and white work since that’s the medium he grew up using, but Dunn’s newest photography exhibit is all about color, and his inspiration comes from spending quality time with his grandchildren, ages 8 and 11.
“The playgrounds are just so much more vibrant and colorful than they were when I grew up, and my photography basically revolves around shapes and forms, and this is a natural move to highlight playgrounds – plus the fact that they are bright and colorful, and that’s something that people don’t really expect from my work,” he said.
Dunn is an active member of the Greater Lynn Photographic Association, Galleries at Lynn Arts, Swampscott Arts Association and the Marblehead Arts Association.
“Photography has just been a hobby and a passion, never been a career,” Dunn said. “I’m just getting out there and having fun with it.”
