Magicians shine bright at All-Star ceremony

July 16, 2025 by Joey Barrett

LYNN — With plenty of photos, speeches, and desserts to go around, The Daily Item hosted an All-Star awards ceremony Wednesday (July 9) evening at Lynn Museum, honoring student-athletes and coaches for their achievements in spring competition.

Nearly 90 student-athletes and coaches were recognized across 12 high schools and six communities. Several Marblehead High student-athletes were honored.

Massachusetts state Sen. Brendan Crighton, joined by state Rep. Jenny Armini (and his 5-year-old daughter, Ellie), kicked off the event with opening remarks. Crighton, who played baseball, basketball, track and field, and football (captain) at Lynn Classical, congratulated the All-Stars and spoke about community impact.

From there, it was time for the All-Stars to take center stage. Sport by sport, each student-athlete received a plaque and gathered for a group photo with peers, followed by speeches from Coach of the Year recipients.

Player of the Year recipients: St. John’s Prep’s Jayden Pelletier (volleyball), Marblehead’s Nate Assa (boys track and field), Peabody’s Alessandra Forgione (girls track and field), Lynnfield’s Kelan Cardinal (boys lacrosse), Peabody’s Brooke Lomasney (girls lacrosse), St. John’s Prep’s Jack Prokopis (boys tennis), Lynnfield’s Paige Martino (girls tennis), St. Mary’s Jack Zimmerman (baseball), and Marblehead’s Tessa Francis (softball).

Coach of the Year recipients: Lynn Classical’s Chris LeBlanc (volleyball), Peabody’s Fernando Braz (boys track and field), Saugus’ Joe Alba (girls track and field), St. John’s Prep’s John Pynchon (boys lacrosse), Bishop Fenwick’s Jill Robinson (girls lacrosse), St. John’s Prep’s Mark Metropolis (boys tennis), Bishop Fenwick’s Sharon Church (girls tennis), Lynnfield’s John O’Brien (baseball), and St. Mary’s Colleen Newbury (softball).

Wrapping up the evening, all student-athletes and coaches gathered for a group photo on the front steps of Lynn Museum.

And just like that, it was all she wrote on another spring sports season.
