The highly anticipated Michael Havens Toy Drive event wrapped up with the generous amount of toys being collected by the Marblehead Fire Department on Friday.
The event, held Thursday night at The Beacon, was a huge success, according to event organizer Curt Havens, the brother of the late Michael Havens. The Beacon was filled with guests who donated gifts while enjoying food, live music, and raffles.
“We were extremely happy with the outpouring of support from the entire town of Marblehead,” Havens said.
Havens estimated that around 120 people attended the event. “It was packed. It was just a fun night overall,” he added.
Thanks to the event and collection boxes placed around Marblehead, the drive accumulated more than 700 toys. Havens had set a goal to collect 500 toys, but it was clear that goal had been exceeded.
On Friday, the Marblehead Fire Department sent a truck to collect the toys gathered at The Beacon. Havens said the truck was completely filled, with barely any room left for more.
“As Michael’s brother, I think he would be extremely happy that this event happened in his honor, and we were blown away by the outcome,” Havens shared.
The toy drive will now become an annual event, held every December, to both honor Michael Havens and provide gifts for children in need on Christmas morning.
Havens repeatedly expressed his gratitude to the town of Marblehead, as well as the businesses and community members who contributed to the success of the first annual Michael Havens Toy Drive.
