Marblehead’s Old Burial Hill Committee is hosting its annual Fundraising Night at The Landing Restaurant on April 8 at 6 p.m.
Enjoy food and drinks while learning about new and ongoing projects to preserve Old Burial Hill’s gravestones and landscapes. No tickets are necessary, however, reservations are recommended.
According to committee member Pam Peterson, the restaurant will be donating 10% of all food and drink proceeds to the Old Burial Hill reservation fund.
“Funds raised will be used for ongoing preservation of gravestones on Burial Hill as well as landscaping, such as trimming and removing trees that could damage the graves,” Peterson said. “The restoration is ongoing, so we do an annual fundraiser and try to restore about 10 gravestones annually.”
Alex Finigan, committee chair, will discuss some of the restoration completed in 2024, upcoming projects for 2025 and the story of an exciting recovery of a gravestone that has been missing for nearly 100 years.
The committee was established in 2009 by the select board to oversee and ensure the restoration of Old Burial Hill. Its work is guided by a detailed preservation master plan, which was developed for Old Burial Hill and funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Historic Commission and Town funds.
