It was announced May 28 that former Interim Superintendent John Robidoux had accepted the position of permanent superintendent in a joint press release from the School Committee and Robidoux.
“This appointment marks a significant move toward stability in the leadership of our schools,” the joint press release wrote.
At the May 15 School Committee meeting at the Lucretia and Joseph Brown School, Robidoux shared, “It is important as a superintendent to have a School Committee that supports the things that you do day to day, and we have a lot of ongoing conversations, and that’s really important. The superintendent’s job is a hard, lonely job, and without the support of the Committee, it makes it that much more difficult. So I do appreciate (the support), and that is the reason I chose to stay.”
The May 28 vote to approve Robidoux’s contract marked the conclusion of a thorough process that began in February when Robidoux presented the Committee with his request to be appointed as permanent superintendent. Following the Committee’s favorable response, a comprehensive mid-cycle evaluation was conducted, gathering feedback from all stakeholders. The thorough process spanned several public meetings to allow for additional opportunities for community engagement.
Robidoux’s contract extends through 2028, “establishing a foundation for consistent leadership as the Committee and superintendent believe that the district is entering a period of growth.”
“Despite navigating several complex challenges Robidoux inherited, both the Committee and Robidoux are optimistic about the positive impact their collaborative efforts have already made on students,” the press release wrote. “Looking ahead, we are excited to work together on developing a district-wide strategic plan aimed at fostering student-centered initiatives that enhance the educational experience for all Marblehead students.”
This comprehensive plan will focus on maximizing student potential, amplifying student voices and cultivating a safe, secure and healthy environment for both students and staff.
