In a tough season-opener to swallow, Marblehead’s baseball team (0-1) fell short in Newburyport, 7-6, as early mistakes were too much to overcome Tuesday evening. Cam Quigley and Ethan Harwood led the Magicians – who nearly came back with a three-run seventh inning – with two hits apiece, while Harwood compiled two RBI.

Marblehead came out firing with an 11-6 halftime cushion against Woburn. From there, it was smooth sailing as the Magicians won, 16-10, at SSG Christopher N. Piper Field to kick off the spring.
Maddie Forbes and Caitlyn Ryan each scored four goals, followed by Zoe Dwyer (3 goals), Gretchen Smith (2), Kathryn Commoss (2), and Ramona Gillett (1). Forbes also delivered four assists, while Molly Bullard made nine key saves.
“Great start to the season,” said Marblehead Coach Annie Madden. “There were goals distributed across grade levels, showing depth in our bench. We aren’t relying on any one or two players. Defense looking strong, with Molly coming up with big saves. We have plenty to learn from as we look forward into the season.”
