It was no home court, no problem for Marblehead’s girls basketball team (14-5), which took a 24-20 lead into halftime before exploding in the second half against Ipswich Tuesday evening. Tess Andriano led the way with 21 points, followed by Olivia Goldwater (8 points), Ramona Gillett (6 points), and Samara Dosch (5 assists, 3 rebounds).

On Senior Night, The Prep (20 3-pointers) received balanced scoring with eight players scoring at least a point. Michael Miller led the Eagles with 22 points and was lights out from distance, dialing in six threes. Brian Norton also had the hot-hand, adding 14 points and connecting on three triples.

With Marblehead racing out to a 15-point lead toward the end of the first quarter, Malden fought back to cut Thursday’s (Feb. 13) game to two points with three minutes remaining in regulation. In the end, however, Marblehead’s defense stepped up behind Rylan Golden and Cam Quigley, according to coach Mike Giardi. Offensively, the tournament-bound Magicians (10-7) were led by Finn Baron (13 points), Sam Thompson (12), and Quigley (11).

Despite a four-hour delay on Monday, the Eagles came out on top with a dominating win. The Prep led, 2-0, after the first period before adding three more in the second to take a commanding 5-0 lead into the third. Chase Brown scored his first career goal to help guide the Eagles, while
freshman goalie Jesse Bernardelli saved 17 shots in a shutout.
SWIMMING AND DIVING
Marblehead’s girls team (56 points) captured 15th place in the MIAA Division 2 state tournament at Boston University this past Saturday. Senior Finn Bergquist (7th in 100 fly – 1:01.94; 10th in 100 backstroke – 1:03.69) led the charge, followed by freshman Shaelyn Callahan, who checked in at ninth in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.22) and 14th in the 500 free (5:38.50).
