Twelve goals from 10 players did the trick for the Eagles. Although the Eagles showed they have plenty of weapons on offense, they showed they’re just as strong on the defensive end.
“Defensively, Danny Magoon and JP Sullivan helped hold Malden Catholic to two shots on goal for the game,” said Coach John Pynchon.
Chase Kenyon won 14-of-16 face-offs for St. John’s Prep.

Despite a 6-3 halftime lead, the Magicians (1-3, 0-1 Northeastern Conference) let things slip in the second half. Taking positives from a negative, Marblehead’s Kathryn Commoss scored four goals to go with an assist, while Maddie Forbes scored and dished out two helpers.
“Strong game today against a talented Beverly team,” said Marblehead Coach Annie Madden. “We are continuing to improve across the field. I’m looking forward to playing Tewksbury (results too late to print).

Marblehead fell short on enemy turf, but not without positives. Commoss and Ramona Gillett potted two goals apiece, while Zoe Dwyer and Forbes also found the back of the net. Molly Bullard made nine saves.
“Game No. 3 and we are playing to the last whistle,” said Marblehead Coach Annie Madden. “Time to grind tomorrow. I’m proud of how we are playing and what type of players we are learning to be – it’s only the beginning.”

In a five-inning mercy, Marblehead’s bats were red hot. Do-it-all Tessa Francis was 2-for-4 with a two-run triple and two-run homer, all while striking out 10 batters and throwing a no-hitter in the circle.
Tessa Andriano was 3-for-4 with three RBI, Nora Mahan batted 2-for-2, and Ashley Mortensen was 2-for-4. Isabel Mortensen, Lyla McGovern, and Kate Andriano collected hits, too.

Standout Marblehead pitcher Francis continued where she left off last spring. She allowed just four hits and no walks while striking out 11 Chieftains en route to a win.
Speed is one of Marblehead’s strengths, and it showed in this one. In the fifth inning. Mortensen walked and then took two bases after a sacrifice bunt from Andriano. From there, after a wild pitch, Mortensen crossed home plate.
Marblehead tacked on a couple of insurance runs in the sixth inning to seal the game.
BOYS TENNIS
Marblehead 5

Dominance was on display for Marblehead, which swept Beverly on home courts. Etan Farfel, Matthew Sherf, and Jayden Janock picked up singles wins, while the doubles teams – Anthony Vizy and Ty Cooper; TJ Kelly and Adam Loughlin – also took care of business.
Winchester 5
Marblehead 0
Marblehead fell short against powerhouse Winchester, but not without positives, according to Coach Tracy Ackerman.
“Winchester is as strong of a team as we will see this season,” she said. “Our team will use this match as a learning tool for their upcoming matches. They got to play against very advanced tennis players, which was a good experience. I’m proud that all five lines for us did better in their second sets than the first. They made some adjustments and got used to the pace of play from Winchester.”
