The Marblehead Museum will debut the Sick and Tired Walking Tour on Friday, June 27, and Saturday, June 28. Led by Jarrett Zeman, the museum’s associate director, the tour will explore the history of health and medicine in Marblehead from the colonial era to World War I.
Zeman will illustrate connections between past public health threats and the COVID-19 pandemic, and reveal how Marbleheaders have fought each other for centuries to ensure healthcare for all.
Stories from the tour include the Smallpox Epidemic of 1730, when a mob nearly tore down a judge’s house to protest inoculations; Dr. Elisha Story’s battle with anti-vaxxers in 1800; a Marblehead pharmacist who sold medicines mixed with cocaine; and a heroic nurse who ran an emergency hospital during the Spanish Flu pandemic.
Tickets are $15 and can be ordered by visiting the museum’s website or by calling 781-631-1768.
