Sustainable Marblehead has been celebrating Earth Month all April with various events like Meatless Meals and All About Composting, and there is still one more to look forward to: Sustainable Marblehead’s fifth annual tree planting for Earth Day and Arbor Day.
The tree planting will be held on April 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Gatchell Green at 63 Lafayette Street. The shade trees were ordered by Town Tree Warden Jon Fobert, who will be leading a brief training session at 8:30 a.m. and guide volunteers on proper preparation and planting techniques.
“This is a great event for everyone – including children – to learn about the proper way to plant and care for trees, engage with fellow tree lovers and get outdoors and have some fun,” said Elaine Leahy, Sustainable Marblehead executive director. “Sustainable Marblehead is very supportive of what the trees bring to town: beauty, carbon dioxide absorption, cooling the planet, improving air quality and supporting biodiversity.”
The full planting process typically takes the full four hours, but community members are invited to provide helping hands when they’re able to join and for as long as they’re able to join. To volunteer, sign up at tinyurl.com/MHD-trees.
