Temptation/Oakcliff breaks Marblehead-to-Halifax record

July 9, 2025 by Joey Barrett

In 2023, the Marblehead-to-Halifax Ocean Race came with wind and craziness. The start of this week’s race, however, came with blue skies and a steady breeze at Marblehead Harbor.

From there, the 363-nautical-mile dash to Nova Scotia ended in style – records included.

Temptation/Oakcliff (USA 119) won the Marblehead-to-Halifax Ocean Race in a record-breaking time of 28:02:56 (18:52 ADT), beating the former record of 28:48:50, held by Prospector.

Call it a smashed record by more than 45 minutes.

“We wanted to get here first and we achieved that goal,” said crew member Gary Jobson, one of 19 members.

“Calling the layline from five miles out — that was the highlight,” said crew member Navigator Hugh.

Boudicca – Gill Race Team (USA 50085) finished the race in second place (19:19), followed by third-place Scowling Dragon (USA 200; 19:49) and fourth-place Dream Crusher (USA 60206; 20:10).

Privateer held pace into the final hours to secure fifth place. Overdraft X clocked the highest VMG of the entire fleet (15.6 knots), while Black Watch and Orion also delivered an impressive performance.

At press time, nine boats remained on the course. For remaining results and more information, visit https://www.marbleheadtohalifax.com/
