After a strong 2022, this fall season is far from ideal for the Marblehead football team, which now stands at 1-4. That said, the Magicians turned a corner this past Friday in a 20-0 road victory against Masconomet (1-3).
The offense shined, as did the defense, which forced an interception (Andy Palmer), seven punts, and allowed just four Masco first downs.
Speaking of Palmer, he stole the show, grabbing two touchdown passes and totaling 93 receiving yards. Finn Gallup got Marblehead on the board with a 4-yard rushing touchdown, and Greg Motorny was 2-for-3 on his extra-point attempts.
Ryan Commoss (6 catches, 45 yards), Brooks Keefe (catch, 12 yards) led the way in Marblehead’s aerial attack, while Colt Wales (42 rushing yards) and Keefe (39) put in work on the ground.
Wales (6-for-10, 66 yards, TD) and Gallup (8-for-10, 92 yards, TD) split time under center, while both Masco quarterbacks struggled against the Magicians’ defensive line.
As for the goose egg on the scoreboard, the Chieftains ran just one play across midfield: a 6-yard loss against Marblehead pressure.
Two consecutive Marblehead wins is a possibility this Saturday when the Magicians travel to take on winless Beverly (0-5) at 1 p.m.
