The first annual Todd Norman Memorial Game, a high school softball showdown between Marblehead and Saugus, will take place this Saturday with first pitch slated for 3 p.m. at Marblehead Veterans Middle School.
Norman, a former assistant coach on Marblehead’s staff, died suddenly last April at age 61. He graduated MHS in 1980 and was the proud owner of Todd Norman Landscaping.
“This will be the first annual Todd Norman Memorial Game,” said Marblehead Coach Johnny Gold. “Steve Almquist, the coach at Saugus, has been a good friend and wonderful in making sure we could have this game in Todd’s memory. We were scheduled to actually play at Saugus, but Steve was kind enough to allow us to change the game to Marblehead.”
There will be a postgame cookout for both teams and Most Valuable Player awards on each side. One of Norman’s family members will throw out the first pitch and donations collected at the game will be sent to the Todd Norman Scholarship Fund.
“Todd was a great friend, coach, husband, father, and grandfather,” Gold said.
