Sally Reiley.

WEEKLY RECOMMENDATIONS: Sally Reiley’s picks

July 21, 2023 by Frances Roberts Hill

OCCUPATION: Passionate marathon runner and contract employee for the Aspen Institute.

BACKSTORY: After college, I never left New England. I married a classmate and raised five kids here. At first there were regular walks, and then no time for walks… running was more efficient! After immersion in my kids’ sports, I started dabbling in races. At the bombing of the Boston Marathon in 2013, I decided I wanted to be a part of a running community. So at age 54, I started running to benefit Mass Eye and Ear. Now at 63, I have logged 14 World Marathon Majors. Berlin and London are on my horizon.

LISTENING: Lots of music, country, especially my first cousin, Jeff Dayton. Also, I like of course a little Taylor Swift. I’m listening to the podcast: “Ali on the Run,” and all kinds of stuff.

WATCHING: In the summer, basically nothing… but earlier did enjoy “Yellowstone” (Peacock TV), and the two prequels: “1883” and “1923” (Paramount).

READING: Currently reading a book by Kara Goucher, a runner, called “The Longest Race” — a great read. She’s a Minnesota girl too, and an Olympiad. Just started Barbara Kingsolver’s “Demon Copperhead.”

SOMETHING PEOPLE MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU OR YOUR BUSINESS: I have a side gig! I test and write reviews for running shoes — every brand. I write for roadtrailrun.com.

WHAT YOU ENJOY ABOUT MARBLEHEAD: The community.
