Leading up to and on Memorial Day, the town has a full schedule of events planned to honor those who have given their lives serving their country.
Starting on Thursday, May 23, there will be a veterans breakfast at the Council on Aging at 9 a.m., sponsored by the Masonic Temple. Following that, on Saturday, May 25 at 9 a.m., a grave-flagging will be conducted at Waterside Cemetery. The meeting spot prior to the flagging will be at Bell Tower.
The general public is not only welcome to attend, put encouraged to participate as well.
On Sunday, May 26, a VFW veterans service will be held at Star of the Sea Cemetery, beginning at 1 p.m. Then, the long weekend will conclude on Memorial Day with a town parade. The day will begin with a muster at Old Town House, starting at 8 a.m. An hour later at 9 a.m., the main parade will begin at Pleasant Street, continuing on to Memorial Park before turning left on Spring to Elm Street. The parade will then take a left off of Elm Street to Cressey, and merge onto Green, taking a left on Turner Road before concluding at Waterside Cemetery.
