On Saturday, Sept. 21, Sustainable Marblehead and SPUR are hosting a Land & Sea Cleanup to remove litter and debris from our beaches, parks, and harbor. ‘Headers in the Revolution

“Marbleheaders in the Revolution” will take place Sept. 21 and 22, 2024, at venues within the historic district. A collection of free programs designed for all ages will be offered throughout the weekend. Meet the wife of war hero James Mugford; explore Fort Sewall with Glover’s Regiment; meet diarist Ashley Bowen portrayed by Donald Friary; experience a loyalist Anglican service at St. Michael’s Church; participate in a recreated town meeting at the Old Town House; visit the Powder House; see the Spirit of ’76 painting; tour the Jeremiah Lee Mansion; and learn about the town’s Tory population at the “King” Hooper Mansion, among other opportunities. Free program booklets available at Abbot Hall’s Select Board Room and the Jeremiah Lee Mansion.
Yoga and Mobility for Lower Back Health

With 80% of adults experiencing back pain at some point, this workshop will focus on physical work to relieve pain or discomfort through yoga and mobility movements. We will conclude with a meditation on patience and nurturance to tune into our bodies’ responses. Location: The Yoga Loft.

Intellectual Freedom 2024: The State of Book Bans

In honor of Banned Books Week, librarian Wesley Sueker will discuss the current state of intellectual freedom, including book bans, challenges, and activism efforts. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A and a list of banned book recommendations. Registration required and limited to 50 attendees. Hosted by Abbot Public Library and the League of Women Voters.
