Historian Susan Wilson discusses how Charles Dickens brought Christmas back to Boston in 1867, ending decades of Colonial-era tradition discouraging the holiday’s celebration.

The Friends of Abbot Public Library winter book sale will be held at the Sail Away Book Shoppe at the library’s temporary home in the Eveleth School, 3 Brook Road. Proceeds help pay for library programs.

Coastline Ballet and Marblehead Little Theatre team up to perform “Land of the Sweets – A Nutcracker Suite” at Little Theatre, 12 School St., with additional performances at 5 p.m. and Sunday, 3 p.m.  Tickets available at MLTlive.org

Holiday Pops concert with the Hillyer Festival Orchestra at Abbot Hall, 188 Washington St. with a dessert reception at 7 p.m. and the concert at 8 p.m. sponsored by the Rotary Club of Marblehead Harbor.

The Mugfords play the Me&Thee holiday concert and dance party, 28 Mugford St. 

Sunday, Dec. 11

2 p.m. 

Our Lady Star of the Sea, 85 Atlantic Avenue, hosts the 30-piece New England Brass Band for a two hour concert. Call 781 631 0086 to buy tickets.

 

Monday, Dec. 12/Tuesday, Dec. 13

7-9 p.m

Auditions for the musical chronicling how young Winnie Foster’s life changes when she meets the Tuck family are open to non-Equity actors and will be held at the Marblehead Little Theatre, 12 School St.
