Back in1971, the Junior Aid Society put on its annual springtime revue at St. Michael’s Church in Lynn. The revue, which is a combination of theatrical acts involving music, dance, and sketches, took place from Friday, April 30, to Saturday May 1.
The theme was “Junior Aid Vanities,” and had multiple residents from Marblehead participating or contributing, including the society’s president, “Mrs. Richard J. Brown,” according to an article appearing in a Friday, April 23 edition of the Daily Evening Item.
The Junior Aid Society was a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting charities for woman and children, had served the Greater Lynn community for 58 years at the time, and donated more than $12,000 to charitable causes the year prior. In 2016, the society dissolved after serving the North Shore for a century.
The article cites local organizations such as the Marblehead-Swampscott YMCA and the Community Counseling Center of Marblehead as supporters of the society.
