In a Friday, May 2, 1980 edition of The Daily Evening Item, it was announced that a familiar face was returning to Marblehead Football.
“Alex Kulevich will once again coach the varsity football team in the fall,” the article reads.
According to the article, Kulevich, who was also serving as the Marblehead athletic director, accepted another year of an interim position. The article states that Kulevich returned “after the School Committee threw in the towel in its efforts to hire another coach for the coming season.”
Kulevich had been coaching the varsity team for a decade since 1970, and became the athletic director a year prior to the article in 1979. He agreed to stay for one more year to allow the committee enough time to find his replacement.
“Apparently, the committee will need more time,” the article reads.
