Through the town’s first-ever two-day pickleball tournament held last month, Marblehead Pickleball was able to donate $16,073 to the Marblehead All Sports Boosters Club for its Fund the Field initiative.
The check was presented to Fund the Field Co-Chair Muffy Paquette by Cheryl Patten and Lisa Spinale of Marblehead Pickleball last week. The funding will contribute to the club’s $1 million goal of replacing the turf at Piper Field, which is past its expiration date.
“When you see 200 pickleballers show up, some in matching outfits, all with great agility and cheer, to support a huge endeavor like this, you just feel exceptionally proud to have a community like ours,” Fund the Field Co-Chair Victoria Dosch said. “Fund the Field is so grateful for the collaboration, and so happy the tournament was a great success for all.”
Paquette said after the tournament that “the weekend exceeded our expectations,” and was thankful for the effort put in by pickleballers in the community.
“I applaud her (Spinale) and her dedicated committee for running a two-day sold-out event!” Paquette said.
