Yearly, the Marblehead Rotary Club awards four to six students a one-time scholarship and one student a four-year scholarship for excellence in academics, leadership, community service, and extracurricular activities. This year, scholarships were given to five outstanding awardees. Maeve McIlroy, the Randolph and Barbara Goodwin Scholarship recipient, is headed to Brown University to study medicine on a pre-med or biology track. Charlotte Howells, the Donald Humphrey and Veterans Memorial scholarship recipient, is named after Mr. Marblehead, a beloved local figure and World War II veteran. Howells will enter Stonehill College, majoring in early education.
Matthew Callahan, a football star and athlete, will attend Amherst College in the fall to pursue an economics degree. Griffen Collins is the first Marblehead Rotary scholarship recipient for college undergraduates; he is currently a college sophomore pursuing a double major in music and cognitive brain science at Tufts University. Finally, Angelina Nguyen (not in the picture) plans to attend the University of California at Berkeley, majoring in applied mathematics with a minor in electrical engineering.
