The Select Board will have a new member following the election of Dan Fox during the town’s election on Tuesday, according to the preliminary results.
The five candidates elected to the board were Fox and incumbents Moses Grader, Bret Murry, Erin Noonan, and Alexa Singer. Dan Albert also ran for the board, but finished sixth.
Because of the town’s recent electoral reform, which expanded the length of Select Board terms from one-year terms to three-year staggered terms, the board’s new members will not have terms of the same length. As of press time, Fox and Grader had received the highest number of votes, with 2,455 and 1,991 respectively, and it appears they will each serve three-year terms. Noonan and Singer, who received 1,979 and 1,908 votes respectively as of press time, will likely each serve a two-year term. Murray, who received the fifth-largest share of votes as of press time with 1,863, will likely serve a one-year term. As of press time, Albert had received 1,016 votes.
On the Recreation and Parks Commission, incumbents Shelly Curran Bedrossian, Karin Ernst, Rossana Ferrante, Matthew Cory Martin, and Linda Rice Collins appeared to have all won their races for reelection, with challenger Richard Jordan coming in sixth. As of press time, Curran Bedrossian had received 1,898 votes, Rice Collins had received 1,799, Ferrante had received 1,607, Ernst had received 1,553, Martin had received 1,278, and Jordan had received 1,106.
Standing outside the Old Town House polling location earlier in the day, Fox and his wife, Tina Fox, held up signs as onlookers cheered from their windows.
“I’m very excited. I’m thrilled to be here and to be part of this process hands-on, and looking forward to hopefully serving this community in the near future,” Daniel Fox said.
Tina Fox said her husband is “super proud of the town,” adding that he grew up in Marblehead and “is super excited to get involved and wants to carry on the legacy of Marblehead in the best way possible.”
Bonnie Buckley was also holding up a sign outside Old Town House for Grader.
She said she decided to campaign on the day of the election because she is a friend and long-time supporter of Grader.
“We have great candidates. Marblehead is an incredible town and the support from the community is wonderful,” Buckley said.
Outside of the Jacobi Community Center, Ernst and some of her supporters waved at people as they drove by.
Ernst said any election day is important because “people get to come out and speak their mind.”
“I hope Karen wins,” Scott Plausse, a supporter of Ernst, said. “The town needs her stability.”
