The St. John’s Prep tennis team punched its ticket to the Division 1 state championship game. The top-ranked Eagles beat No. 4 Lexington, 4-1, Monday evening.
In first singles, John DeAngelis didn’t lose a game, beating Ronak Wakhlu 6-0, 6-0. Second singles, Jack Prokopis, took care of his opponent, winning 6-2, 6-0.
Prep’s Luke Free and Darius Jin battled in the first set of third singles with Free picking up a tough 7-5 set win. Free made adjustments and figured out his opponent in the second set, winning 6-0 for the Eagles.
Luke Prokopis and Boris Kouzminov showed their resiliency in first doubles. The duo trailed after the first set, 3-6, but regrouped and won the next two sets, 6-1, 6-4, for the win.
The second doubles team had a tough match, losing to Lexington 3-6, 2-6.
The Eagles are back in the championship game and look to be crowned champions when they face No. 2 Concord-Carlisle with the time and location TBD.
