There will be many mental health and wellness education events available for the public in the coming weeks in town.
The Marblehead Counseling Center is hosting a Community Wellness Day event on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m.
The nonprofit community counseling center will partner with local sponsors and vendors to promote mental health awareness and community spirit for the free, family-friendly event at Hobbs Playground, 57 Clifton Ave.
The Community Wellness Day event will celebrate the counseling center’s 55 years of offering mental health and social services for the town.
The event aims to reach additional members of the community, especially children and young adults who are reporting more mental, social, and emotional health issues than ever before, according to the event’s press release.
“For 55 years, the MCC has provided important mental health, wellness, and social services to our wonderful community. We thought organizing a Community Wellness Day would be a great way to bring folks together and showcase some of the wonderful organizations and individuals whose funding allows the MCC to offer such vital services, as well as local businesses that keep our community healthy and thriving,” Marblehead Counseling Center Board of Directors President Ruth Ferguson said.
There will be health and wellness vendor exhibits, along with activities including pony rides, an ice-cream truck, and giant classic games.
T-shirts will also be available, commemorating the 55th anniversary of the Counseling Center and featuring the winning design by Marblehead student Samantha Cooper.
Proceeds from T-shirt sales will go directly to support the Counseling Center’s continued mission to provide mental health and social services to Marblehead and its neighbors.
As part of Seaglass Village’s ongoing Health and Wellness Series, Justin Cammarata, health and wellness director at the Lynch/Van Otterloo YMCA, will share his professional expertise on alternate exercises for older adults on Friday, June 28 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the YMCA. The program is part of Seaglass Village’s ongoing Health and Wellness series.
Cammarata will speak about the importance of movement and “workarounds” (in the gym or at home) that anyone can learn to overcome orthopedic and other physical challenges.
He will also acquaint attendees with the YMCA’s senior-oriented programs. Many people, both old and young, have physical challenges that might prevent participation in traditional exercise regimens, athletic activities, or both, according to the press release from Seaglass Village
