“The Infinite Moment of Now,” directed by Maddie Roth and written by Marblehead local Bianca Vranceanu, is set to debut this fall at the Larcom Theatre in Beverly.
Vranceanu studied theater at Northeastern University and graduated in 2022, but her passion for theater started much earlier, when she was 9 years old.
She said she has always loved acting, but her passion for writing plays was identified during the COVID-19 pandemic. She started taking writing and playwriting classes at Northeastern.
“I would read aloud my pieces and there would be a lot of positive reactions from my classmates. So I was like, ‘Oh well maybe there is something here,’” she said.
Upon graduation, she had several of her plays produced.
Vranceanu said the inspiration for “The Infinite Moment of Now” comes from female friendships and how they shift and change over the years.
She said one of her favorite parts about playwriting is being able to develop a character from scratch. She said determining the innate details of their personality and background is so important for people to relate to what they see on stage.
“All of these small aspects influence the way people in real life interact and react in the real world. So that should be mirrored on stage as well,” she said
Vranceanu said once the characters are defined and developed, she loves creating the world of the play.
“You’re almost like a god when you write a play. The world can act in whatever way you want it to be,” she said. “So it’s really fun to build up this place and moment in time and bring these characters to life.”
She said she looks for inspiration in everyday moments.
“I’m always looking for the story, I think that makes life so interesting,” she said.
She said she hopes members of the audience reflect on how friendships and people grow over time and how they can go on an individual journey, but also go on a journey together.
“I hope they reflect and maybe realize the importance of friendship and the people who will be there for you. Friendships are really your chosen family. So the importance in just knowing that, yes, you go through changes over time, but it’s also important to take accountability when necessary, and also just realizing that these people are your rocks,” she said.
Vranceanu said she is very excited for the play to take place at the Larcom Theatre because “they’re so welcoming and such as supportive, family and really, it’s been such a it’s such an exciting process to work with them.”
“They also give such great insight and they have such a strong grasp of the community in Beverly,” she said.
