Monday’s School Committee meeting saw the committee approve a number of agenda items.
The committee voted 4-0 in favor of increasing hourly wages for cafeteria workers by $3 to $5 per hour. Chair Jenn Schaeffner explained that doing so is good for job retention and said the committee is able to vote on this issue because the cafeteria workers are no longer unionized.
The committee also unanimously voted to make the assistant director of student services position a full-time position. There was some discussion around funding the position from part time to full time and taking the money from the pre-K/kindergarten revolving account.
“This position is going to be supporting our earliest education students, our pre-K and K kids that come into the district,” Assistant Superintendent Mike Pfifferling said. “One of the main focuses of this position is to make sure they have their services and their IEPs that they need. Some kids come into the district and don’t already have those services identified.”
The shortest part of the meeting was the unanimous vote of 4-0 to appoint Town Administrator Thatcher Kezer to the School Committee Bargaining Subcommittee.
