You may have noticed lawn signs around town with the message “Vote! Democracy is Counting on You.” The people behind these signs are members of the League of Women Voters of Marblehead (LWVM) who seek to provide a friendly reminder to citizens about the importance of voting in the upcoming elections.
A core belief of the League is that our democracy depends upon informed and active
participation of citizens and that we all have a stake in our elections. With the election season
just getting underway there is time to get informed about the candidates and their positions on
issues that are important to you, and then make a choice. The Massachusetts primary is
Tuesday, Sept. 3 and the Presidential election is Tuesday, Nov. 5. Simply put,
your vote is your voice.
Believing Marblehead could probably do better with voter turnout, LWVM decided to challenge
ourselves and the town not to take our democracy for granted but to act. Therefore, we
encourage everyone to perform this simple participatory action – to vote.
“Vote! Democracy is Counting on You!” lawn signs cost $10 each. The sign has a QR code
that links to the LWVM Defending Democracy webpage with details about voting, VOTE411, and other election information. Anyone interested in purchasing a lawn sign should send an email to lwvmarblehead@gmail.com for further information.
The League of Women Voters is non-partisan with respect to candidates and political parties.
The League works to promote political responsibility through informed and active participation of citizens in government. Membership is open to all.
