Talk about a good start to the week. Marblehead’s girls soccer team earned a 3-0 win against traditional rival Swampscott on Monday.
Callie Gilmore unleashed an early shot from 25 yards out that struck the crossbar. Swampscott thought it was out of danger until Marblehead sophomore Lucy Church was first to react to the ball, heading home the game’s first goal. It was Church’s career first.
With less than 10 minutes remaining in the first half, it was Sadie Halpern’s turn for a Marblehead goal. The speedster got past the Big Blue defense on a free kick and doubled up the scoreboard. Moments later, Gilmore tucked another to make it three first-half goals for the hosts.

In a non-league game for the Magicians, they blanked Waltham on their home turf of Piper Field. Courtney Hitscherich scored two goals (Sydney Ball and Halpern assists), while Gilmore netted an unassisted tally to secure the win.
Lily Heller saved three shots, while Hailey Gilmore picked up another.
“The whole team played well,” said Marblehead coach Lisa Wales. “Sammy Dosch and Cora Gerson came off the bench and made some excellent contributions. Sydney Ball has the ability to play anywhere on the field and her versatility is huge to our team success.”
BOYS SOCCER
Masconomet 2
Marblehead 1
Despite a highlight-reel goal from Marblehead’s Miles Fontela-Tuttle to open the scoring, the Magicians were edged by host Masconomet.
“We took the momentum, but missed two shots. Then, Masco took it away and scored a bouncing ball inside the box. The last 10 minutes belonged to us,” said Marblehead coach Elmer Magaña. “Our defense kept us in the game, especially Luke Miller. Our mids and forwards fought for every ball. Goalie Rory Zampese had two great saves.”
