NORTH ANDOVER — The Marblehead football team shot out to a 17-point lead by halftime and never looked back last Friday. From there, the Magicians cruised past host North Andover, 37-6, to climb back to .500 at 2-2.
The final score can be deceiving, as North Andover proved to be a difficult opponent in a defensive first quarter. The only score of the first came from Marblehead’s Brady Selvais, who found the endzone on a 5-yard rush.
After converting the extra-point attempt on Selvais’ touchdown, kicker Finn Bresnahan followed up with a 17-yard field goal to put Marblehead ahead, 10-0, in the second quarter.
Back in the redzone during the second quarter, quarterback Finn Gallup spotted Rylan Golden for a 6-yard touchdown through the air. Another PAT from Bresnahan made it 17-0.
Despite North Andover’s Jeff Lavolpicelo making things interesting in the third quarter with a 6-yard touchdown catch from Billy Vincent, it was all Marblehead from there.
Bernardo Bannis, Gallup, and Yandel Garcia rushed for second-half touchdowns to put the cherries on top of a strong performance – start to finish.
After an 0-2 start against Bishop Fenwick and King Philip, the Magicians have since rattled off a pair of wins (Shepherd Hill on Sept. 20).
Marblehead enjoys a bye week before returning to action Thursday, Oct. 10 for a 7 p.m. home game against Beverly.
