The Abbot Public Library renovations are complete, and the Friends of Abbot are dedicated to expanding the activities that Abbot has to offer. With the help of library-loving volunteers, all that is possible.
The Friends of Abbot Public Library is a volunteer organization that is dedicated to supporting library events and services for the town of Marblehead and its surrounding communities. The Friends promote awareness for library use, provide financial support for library items, communicate the needs of the community to library staff, and more to assist the library.
Specializing in book sales at the Sail Away Bookshop inside Abbot Library, the Friends have quarterly book donation drives and discount sales. All of the proceeds from these events go toward library programs.
But in order to run these events, the library needs volunteer assistance. They are looking for multiple positions, including a book shop manager, book shop staff, Friends’ product sales, donation day intake, donated book sorting, book sale event planning, setup, selling, and takedown, and book disposals.
The Friends would like to make note that many of these tasks involve physical labor with the moving of boxes and carts of books.
Through the help of volunteers, the library can develop and execute an efficient and fun book exchange network that the town of Marblehead can be a part of.
Abbot Library is hosting a volunteer event on Wed. Feb. 12, time to be determined, in the Scully Salon. Attendees can meet the Friends and library staff to talk more about how to get involved.
