Marblehead Little Theatre brings Little Women to life

February 12, 2025 by For The Weekly News

The Marblehead Little Theatre (MLT) production of “Little Women, the Broadway Musical,” based on the beloved novel by Louisa May Alcott, will open on Friday, Feb. 21, and run through March 2. Tickets are available online at mltlive.org.

The Beacon Restaurant, MLT’s premier restaurant partner, will offer two Sunday brunches to tie in with the musical’s run, on Feb. 23 & March 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. On the menu will be Apple cider and apple-flavored pastries and breakfast items. The brunch is open to the public, and MLT ticket holders will receive 10% off Brunch (or dinner on Friday or Saturday) when they show their tickets. Reservations are highly recommended at thebeaconmarblehead.com or by calling 781-631-0180.

Louisa May Alcott’s novel “Little Women” was written at her home in Concord, MA and first published in two volumes in 1868 and 1869. This year we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the stage production of “Little Women, the Broadway Musical,” with a book by Allan Knee, lyrics by Mindi Dickstein, and music by Jason Howland.

“Little Women, the Broadway Musical” brings a fresh and vibrant perspective to the familiar tale, with all the warmth, humor, and emotion that audiences have cherished for generations. The March sisters—Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy—navigate the challenges of growing up, discovering their identities, and facing life’s hardships while holding onto the bond of family and love. With its rich period setting, treasured literary heroines, and timeless themes of resilience, ambition, and the pursuit of happiness, this production promises to resonate with audiences of all ages.

MLT’s production of “Little Women, the Broadway Musical” will feature a talented local cast, with creative direction and choreography by Alexandra Dietrich, who most recently directed “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder” and “The Great Gatsby” at MLT. Music direction is by Lianne Bunting whose MLT credits include “Mamma Mia,” “Mary Poppins” and “Billy Elliot the Musical.” “Little Women, the Broadway Musical” is presented through a special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI) and is licensed by MTI.
