Despite a first singles loss against Swampscott’s Sam Schepens, Marblehead had more than enough in the tank to take down its traditional archrival Tuesday. Matt Sherf and Jayden Janocle were victorious in singles, as were the duos of Anthony Vizy/Ty Cooper and TJ Kelly/Austin Bacon.

Masconomet 3
Marblehead 2
The postponed match that was tied, 2-2, resumed Friday with third singles determining the winner. Masco’s Sophie Donnellan prevailed in a 7-5 third-set thriller to earn a win (6-3, 4-6, 7-5) against Marblehead’s Abbie Goodwin.
“Abbie was down 2-5 and made a great comeback to keep the match very close. At 5-5, they must have had 6-8 deuce games before Sophie went ahead at 6-5, then finished the match at 7-5,” said Marblehead Coach Tracy Ackerman. “Both players were super consistent and patient, forcing their opponents to make the error. Abbie is looking forward to getting another chance to play Sophie next Friday when we travel to Masco.”

For eight innings, runs were hard to come by. As a matter of fact – goose eggs.
But in the ninth inning, Marblehead’s Isabel Mortensen hit a leadoff single and went to third base on Haley Schmitt’s base hit. From there, Francis (9 IP, 4 H, 13 K) drove them home with a timely double to center field.
