Marblehead Festival of Arts (MFoA), a volunteer-run nonprofit, is committed to supporting high school seniors in Marblehead who are planning to pursue the arts in college with $3,000 scholarships given to selected applicants.
Students interested in pursuing collegiate art education such as degrees in the visual, musical, literary, or performing arts may apply for the scholarship. Applicants may attend any high school, but must either reside or attend school in Marblehead. The deadline for applications is April 13.
“For over 60 years, the Festival of Arts has provided a forum for the expression of the arts in our community. We can’t think of a better way to keep our art traditions alive than to foster continuing art education for our talented students,” said MFoA President Jodi-Tatiana Charles.
Founded in 1962, Marblehead Festival of Arts has a rich history of producing a premier summer arts festival that has become a unique forum for artistic expression.
Traditionally held each year over the July 4th holiday, the Festival hosts a wide range of art exhibits including painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, outdoor music concerts overlooking Marblehead Harbor, Literary Festival, Street Festival, Children’s and Boat Building activities, Artisans’ Marketplace, Film Festival, and many other cultural activities designed to provide a fun and enriching experience for the entire family.
Mia Nia Guzman was a 2020 recipient of the MFoA scholarship. Guzman was an active contributor to Marblehead Highschool racial and artistic climate, seen through her activism and visual arts. Her leadership was seen in the school’s Hip Hop Club, along with the minority club.
Guzman was also a part of the National Art Honor Society and an invited member of the Core Mentor team. She is excited to be attending Parsons School of Design to continue her path in arts with the hope to be active in the world of black arts and to be able to influence those who’ve experienced similar hardships as her.
The MFoA scholarships are proudly awarded to foster and encourage further exploration and education in the arts, including fine, creative, literary, performing arts, or music or film production.
In consideration of scholarship awards, the MFoA Scholarship Committee reviews general academic and art achievement, activities both in and outside of school (arts-related and other), honors, and/or special citations received related to intended future vocation and financial need. All information is kept confidential.
The Marblehead Festival of Arts has awarded over $100,000 in scholarship funds to students since 1986. Award recipients have attended colleges and art schools across the country, pursuing their passion for the arts with the help of MFoA.
