YMCA honors Dee and Kevin Colcord for community impact and innovation

Marblehead residents Dee and Kevin Colcord are this year’s recipients of the YMCA Community Compass Award.

The annual award is presented to individuals, businesses, or groups that show a vision and commitment to the YMCA and the communities it serves.

“Kevin and Dee embody the spirit of innovation and community impact,” said President and CEO of the YMCA of Metro North Kathleen Walsh. “Their thoughtful approach, collaborative leadership, and deep belief in the Y’s mission have helped shape transformative projects that will benefit generations of children and families.”

Dee and Kevin Colcord are philanthropists who have extended the Demakes Family YMCA in Lynn, as well as developed initiatives such as the Rooftop Garden and the Music and Performing Arts Center, set to open this coming September.

“In our experience, one can’t find a better nor more effective community service organization than the Demakes Family YMCA. Their impact and reach are incredible!” said Kevin Colcord.

Colcord expressed the pleasure it has been for them to engage with the volunteers, staff and members of the organization over the past eight years.

“We have been thrilled to see many compelling improvements come to life,” he said.

The YMCA of Metro North is a Massachusetts-based nonprofit organization, serving nearly 69,000 community members annually through health and youth development programs.

The organization provides more than $2.4 million in financial assistance to ensure access to youth programs, summer camps, and medical intervention. It operates facilities in Lynn, Melrose, Peabody, Saugus, and Stoneham.

The award will be given out at the YMCA’s annual fundraising event on Sept. 18 at the Boston Marriott in Pea body.
