From April 14 through April 23, Marblehead School of Ballet will be celebrating National Dance Week with a poetry contest where current students, former students, and the people from the general public can submit a poem with the theme “What dance means to you.”
“The Marblehead School of Ballet takes pride in joining other organizations across the country in celebrating National Dance Week and spotlighting the importance of dance in our society,” said Paula K. Shiff, the director of the Marblehead School of Ballet, in a press release.
“During our 51st anniversary, we want to introduce more people of all ages — children, tweens, teenagers, adults, and seniors — to the wonders and benefits of dance and our school’s programs in ballet, creative movement, stretch and strength, West Coast Swing, Argentine tango, ballroom and Latin,” she added.
To submit, contestants must write about what dance means to them and submit the poem with their name, their age, a picture of themself, and their contact information from now until April 23 at the school’s website msb@havetodance.com.
There will be three winners. The first and second-place winners will be awarded, respectively, a $100 and $50 gift certificate to On Your Toes Dancewear. The third-place winner will receive a copy of a book about the history of a classical ballet, “Apollo’s Angels” by Jennifer Homans.
At the end of May, the North Shore Civic Ballet’s board of trustees will review, select, and announce the winners through Marblehead School of Ballet’s social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
