Our Lady Star of the Sea is proud to presents Tales from the Vienna Woods: Strauss at 200, a festive celebration of the “Waltz King,”
Johann Strauss II, on Sunday, September 14th at 2:30 PM at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Marblehead.
This special concert marks the bicentennial of Strauss’s birth and brings to life the glittering sounds of 19th-century Vienna. The program will feature Strauss’s most beloved waltzes, polkas, and overtures, performed by the Star of the Sea Orchestra under the direction of Matthew Arnold, Conductor.
The concert will also showcase the talents of acclaimed soprano Erin Merceruio Nelson and internationally celebrated mezzo-soprano and conductor Gigi Mitchell-Velasco, bringing a touch of operatic brilliance to the afternoon.
“Our aim is to transport the audience straight into a Viennese ballroom of Strauss’s time,” said conductor Matthew Arnold. “The music of Strauss is at once joyous, elegant, and timeless—it invites everyone to dance in spirit.”
This event is free admission, with a free-will offering gratefully accepted. All are welcome to enjoy an afternoon of sparkling music in one of Marblehead’s most beautiful historic settings.
