September is a busy month for history buffs in Marblehead, as there are plenty of tours and programs organized by the Marblehead Museum’s Marblehead 250 Committee and funded in part by grants from the Marblehead Cultural Council.
This coming weekend in particular is a townwide event, the second annual “Headers in the Revolution” series, with 10 separate locations featuring historical reenactments, talks, and tours of revolutionary-era landmarks throughout Marblehead’s historic district.
Marblehead 250 is Marblehead’s part of the statewide Massachusetts 250 initiative which celebrates the 250th anniversary of the Revolutionary War and the state’s integral part in it. “Headers in the Revolution” celebrates the Marblehead residents who played roles during the Revolution.
Marblehead Museum Executive Director Lauren McCormack said, “The American Revolution began in April of 1775, so we are literally 250 years later, to the day in some cases. This is an opportunity to have a well-rounded understanding of Marblehead, 250 years ago during the American Revolution.”
The event will take place at sites around the downtown area on Saturday, Sept. 21, and Sunday, Sept. 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Visit the Marblehead Museum website at marbleheadmuseum.org/headers-in-the-revolution/ to see this weekend’s event schedule, which is the same for both Saturday and Sunday.
