What a meet it was for Marblehead track and field team against Swampscott on Friday, as the boys (99-37) and girls (90-41) both left victorious.
In girls high jump, Keira Sweetnam soared over 5’4” to win the event, a spring PR and one that tied her best in indoor track. Errol Apostolopoulos led the way for the boys with a jump of 5’4”.
Elise Burchfield stepped up to win the long jump with a jump of 15’9”, a 1-foot PR. And for the boys, Thomas Carlson continues to build on a stellar season with a 20’ long jump.
Rachael Albert hurled the discus to a new school record of 101’4”, eclipsing the previous record of 100’6.75”, and in the boys 100m, Harrison Curtis caught eyes with a phenomenal time of 10.8.
BASEBALL

It was one of those games – one where a few timely hits changed the outcome. Marblehead hit two home runs and out-hit Masco 10-9 on Friday, but it wasn’t enough to hold on. Marblehead led 4-2 at one point, but Masco rallied back to escape victorious.

Xaverian 4
St John’s Prep’s Joe Williams retired nine batters on Wednesday, April 12 while allowing just seven hits against a very skilled Xaverian group. Will Shaheen batted 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Yanni Andrikopoulos plated two. Nick Lembo and Marco Zirpoli both tripled, and the Eagles picked up yet another win in the rivalry matchup.
SOFTBALL
Gloucester 4
Marblehead 3
In an eight-inning contest, Gloucester just barely edged Marblehead 4-3 on Wednesday, April 12. That said, Marblehead pitcher Tessa Francis put on a show, giving up two hits and zero walks while retiring five batters. Adding on to that, she batted 2-for-4 while Ruby Calienes went 2-for-3.
Catcher Luka Bornhorst was excellent behind the plate, throwing out two runners for the highlight reel.
BOYS LACROSSE
Peabody 7
Masconomet 6
The Peabody boys lacrosse team put on a show on Saturday, defeating Masconomet 7-6 to continue its perfect start (4-0).
Ashton Sousa scored four times, while Matt Bettencourt potted two alongside four assists.

Catholic Memorial 6
St. John’s Prep used a balanced scoring attack to cruise past Catholic Memorial as the Eagles had 11 players find the back of the net.
Leading the way for Prep was Oliver Roselli, Will Sawyer, Luke Kelly and Matt Morrow, as they all scored two goals apiece. The Eagles’ record remains perfect (4-0).
GIRLS LACROSSE
Peabody 14
Marblehead 8
The Tanners went on the road and got the victory over the Magicians on Monday. Peabody led 8-2 at the half and maintained its six-goal lead until the final horn. Lucy Wales led the Magicians with three goals, while goalkeeper Addie Lydon recorded seven saves for Marblehead.

In a 6 p.m. showdown against Danvers on Saturday, the Marblehead girls lacrosse team was just barely defeated 12-11. The Lady Magicians now stand at 0-6 and 0-3 in the Northeastern Conference.
Addie Lydon stood strong for Marblehead with nine saves, and offense was aplenty. Sydney Langton scored a hat-trick and dished out an assist, while Lucy Wales scored twice while also picking up an assist.
Isabelle Ferrante scored three times and Ramona Gillett added two. Maddie Forbes registered two assists while picking up four wins at the draw.

The Big Blue are off to a terrific start this season (3-0), and were led by sophomore Avery Laundry on Thursday, April 13, who scored a game-high five goals.
Senior captain Abby Eichler (3 goals) recorded another hat-trick in her Swampscott career. Junior captain Coco Clopton and fellow junior Sophia Ciciotti added two goals apiece for the Big Blue.
Freshman Lilah Capllan recorded 13 saves between the Swampscott pipes. For Marblehead, Ramona Gillett (2 goals) and Maddie Forbes (2 goals) performed well.

Marblehead (2-1) had a solid showing despite the final score. Matthew Sherf fell to Peter Khudyakov in third singles (3-6, 2-6), but played some of his best tennis according to Marblehead coach Elisabeth Foukal.

Against rival Swampscott, Marblehead’s boys tennis team won 4-1 on Wednesday, April 12 as its three singles players (Mika Garber, Jost Eggebrecht, Matthew Sherf) won in straight sets.
In doubles, sophomores Etan Farfel and Jayden Janock beat juniors Trevor Talebian and Nick Custer (5-7, 6-2, 7-5).
“This was a highly-skilled doubles match with Etan and Jayden playing their best tennis,” Marblehead coach Elisabeth Foukal said.
The Magicians remained undefeated in league play (2-0).

Swampscott 0
The Magicians put on quite the spell against Swampscott on Wednesday, April 12, winning 5-0 on the road. Despite the loss, the Big Blue fought extremely hard in the first round of doubles. Victoria Quagrello and Anna Ratner were just barely defeated (6-3, 5-7, 6-4).
Marblehead improved to 3-0 on the season as Pauline Geissler, Andrea Potvin, and Charly Cooper all won their singles matchups.
“There were some great, quality tennis matches played by both sides today. I also saw some outstanding sportsmanship between the two teams,” Marblehead coach Tracy Ackerman said. “Our team continues to impress me with sheer scrappiness. We have not lost a singles match yet, [and] this team has great camaraderie and just does not give up.”
